As we all know, our garage door openers depend on electricity to operate and something as simple and unexpected as a thunder storm can make your garage door opener completely inoperable.
No need to panic if you take the time to learn how to disengage your garage door opener, allowing you open it manually. It's important to survey your garage door opener BEFORE there is an emergency while you have plenty of light and the time read a manual or make a phone call if necessary....every garage door opener brand can be a little different, and sometimes it can be a little tricky.
If you have a Chamberlain garage door opener, which is the brand we typically install, locate the garage door opener's red emergency cord and pull on it, then slide it back about an inch or so, this should disable the trolley operator which pulls the door allowing you to open your garage door manually.
If your garage door was initially equipped with a side lock, you can use it to secure the door instead of reengaging the garage door trolley. When the power comes back on, be sure to disable the lock BEFORE reconnecting the door to the garage door opener.
Of course, if you have any questions or need assistance of any kind, we are just a phone call away! 832-833-2442
