If you have a Lift Master or Chamberlain garage door opener with MyQ Smart Technology, you are probably already enjoying the incredible ease and convenience it brings to your garage door. Most of the time, you probably use a remote control or digital app to open and close your door without difficulty, but if you need help programming or changing a keyless entry PIN code, here is a basic rundown.
SETTING YOUR CODE
The first step is to set your code:
Step 1: Find the Learn Button – On the MyQ Control Panel, the Learn button is located under the push bar. It is a colored button with an LED next to it. Just lift the push bar to find it.
Step 2: Input Your Code – Press the button twice, then enter a four-digit PIN of your choosing on the keypad within 30 seconds and press enter. Try to pick something that’s difficult to guess, not four sequential numbers or your birthdate. The LED light should go off, indicating that you have successfully programmed the code.
Step 3: Test the Code – Wait 10 seconds, then input your PIN code and press enter. The door should now open or close. If it does not, go through the procedure again.
To change an existing PIN, enter your current PIN and hold down the # key. When the light blinks, release the # key and type on the new PIN. The light should blink again to indicate a successful PIN change. Wait 10 seconds and test as before.
SETTING A TEMPORARY PIN
In some circumstances, you may wish to set a temporary PIN to allow guests or service workers to access to your home without giving away your permanent PIN code. Setting a temporary PIN is simple:
Step 1: Type in your PIN and hold down the * key. When the light blinks three times, let go of the * key.
Step 2: Enter the temporary four-digit PIN of your choosing. The opener light blinks four times.
Step 3: Set the parameters for the temporary password. For time, type in the number of hours you want the PIN to work for and press *. For quantity, type in the number of times you want the password to work and press #. The highest number you can choose is 255. The light blinks once.
Step 4: After 10 seconds, test the opener. Remember this counts as a use. To clear a temporary password prematurely, just do the procedure for setting up the temporary PIN and set number of hours or times to 0.
Some garage door openers may have a slightly different procedure. Your installer should let you know if this is the case.
